Summer Speech at UT

Speech and Language Therapy for Children Ages 3-10

Dates: July 8-19, 2019
Times: Monday - Friday 9:30am-12:00pm
Cost: $375

This group is for all children who qualify for speech or language therapy.

Target skills may include:
• Asking and answering questions
• Describing and explaining
• Following directions
• Playing interactively with others
• Speaking clearly
• Listening and attending

Children will be grouped with others of similar age and target skills. All skills will be taught during fun theme-based activities that naturally promote communication and interaction.

All attendees will receive an individual work plan and a progress report with child goals, progress, and future recommendations.

Graduate clinicians in speech-language pathology will lead the sessions under the supervision of Dr. Jesse Franco, CCC-SLP.

Conversation Club

Conversation Club offers 10 weekly, theme-based project-oriented activities that focus on social and communication skills for individuals with developmental disabilities Participants will have individualized goals in the areas of conversation, nonverbal communication, and social interaction. In each session, participants complete motivating and interactive planning projects with peer mentors (UT undergraduate students) under the instruction of graduate student clinicians. Sample activities include: making a Harlem Shake video, critiquing art at the Blanton Museum, and cooking.

PROJECT SKILLS: Parent Training Course for Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

PROJECT SKILLS is an 8-week program serving the families of children who have a recent diagnosis of ASD. Training introduces parent intervention specific vocabulary such as joint attention, communicative temptations for language development, expansion of child utterances, modeling appropriate language, and symbolic pretend play.

Training includes one 2-hour introductory group session and seven 1-hour individual sessions
*ZOOM video-conferencing is available for families who cannot travel to UTSHC

Dates: Opening Groups: June 4-5/ Individual Sessions: June 11-July 24
Times: Tuesdays & Wednesdays 10:00 AM -6:00 PM
(Register below for specific weekly time.)
Cost: No cost for eligible Texas residents; $600 for eligible non-Texas residents

Preschool Speech and Language Group

Preschool language group serves children between 1.5 and 5 years with speech and language delays. Student clinicians provide group communication intervention based on the child’s individualized goals. Children are grouped with others of similar age and target skills. All skills will be taught during fun theme-based activities that naturally promote communication and interaction. All attendees will receive an individualized treatment plan and a progress report with child goals, progress, and future recommendations.

Accent Modification Group

Accents are natural part of spoken language and are not a speech and language disorder. However, many individuals may want to increase their intelligibility in English to be understood more easily by listeners. The accent modification group is a 13-week session designed for non-native English speakers who would like to change their production of speech sounds. All attendees will receive an individualized work plan and a progress report with goals, progress, and future recommendations.
