Mirza J. Lugo-Neris, PhD, CCC-SLP, joined the UTSHC as a clinical assistant professor in August 2016. She holds graduate degrees from Florida State University and The University of Texas at Austin. Her experience includes working as a bilingual speech-language pathologist in multiple settings (private practice, public schools, contractor, consultant), clinical supervision of SLP assistants and graduate students, as well as providing community in-services and co-teaching graduate courses.
Dr. Lugo’s clinical research interests include the assessment and treatment of Spanish-English bilingual children with language impairment, the development and efficacy of narrative-based language and literacy interventions, clinical practice research, as well as bilingual language disorders across the lifespan. She currently has publications in American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, Language Speech and Hearing Services in Schools, and Seminars in Speech and Language.
At UTSHC, Dr. Lugo focuses on educating graduate clinicians in providing appropriate diagnostic and intervention services for children and adults with speech and language disorders, with a focus on Spanish-English bilinguals.
