Professional preparation in speech-language pathology or audiology requires the completion of a Master's degree, 350 hours of supervised clinical practicum, successful completion of the national comprehensive written examination, and nine months of supervised employment, which constitutes the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY). Upon completion of these requirements, the candidate is eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) or Audiology (CCC-A) issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The candidate is also eligible for licensure in the state of Texas as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist. The program at the University of Texas is accredited in Speech-Language Pathology and in Audiology by the Educational Standards Board of ASHA.
The Department does not offer professional certification in Deaf Education.
