Welcome

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) faculty share a three-fold research mission:

  1. to contribute to the scientific bases of the discipline;
  2. to foster and develop new generations of knowledgeable producers and consumers of research; and
  3. to more fully understand normal and disordered communication processes for the benefit of humankind.

The CSD research mission reflects and supports the mission and core values of The University. That is, to achieve excellence in education, “…contribute to the advancement of society through research,” and “…to expand knowledge and human understanding.”

Research activities span the human lifespan and encompass a full-range of speech, language, hearing, and cognitive processes. Our Laboratories focus on:

  • Speech Development,
  • Developmental Stuttering,
  • Auditory Research,
  • Speech Production, and
  • Auditory Perception.

We also have laboratories that focus primarily on communication processes in adults. These include:

  • Aphasia Laboratory,
  • Memory and Language Laboratory,
  • Language and Cognitive Aging Laboratory, and
  • Communication in Adults Research Group.
