Swathi Kiran, Ph.D. joined our faculty in Speech-Language Pathology in January 2002. Her doctoral work, in the area of aphasia, was completed at Northwestern University. Prof. Kiran's research interests include:

  • Novel treatment methods promoting generalization effects in aphasia
  • Lexical-semantic processing in individuals with and without aphasia,
  • Acquired reading and writing disorders in aphasia
  • Cross linguistic generalization patterns of lexical retrieval in bilingual aphasia
  • Neuroimaging methods to investigate brain plasticity in aphasia following language treatment

Dr. Kiran has been funded by National Institutes of Deafness and Communicative Disorders and the American Speech Language and Hearing Foundation. She is the first recipient of the New Century Research Scholars Grant awarded by the ASHA Foundation. Dr. Kiran has published in the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research, Brain and Language, Aphasiology, and the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.
