Effective Fall 2007 the CSD department will offer a Bilingual / Multicultural certificate (with an emphasis on Spanish/English bilingual populations) to students at the MA level in Speech Language Pathology. The purpose of the certificate is to foster the development of the competencies required to serve bilingual individuals with communication disorders.
The specialization requirements are:
1. Approved specialization application on file.
2. Six credits of specialized coursework (The academic requirements for the specialization are effective for the 07-08 academic year and are subject to change effective 08-09 pending curriculum revision.):
3. 125 hours of bilingual clinical experience (on campus + off campus practicum sites).
4. Passing score on the Texas Oral Proficiency Test
Students desiring the Multicultural certificate need not take the TOPT. Student who do not achieve a passing score on the TOPT but completing all other requirements are eligible for the Multicultural certificate.
