All information and application instructions for Fall 2010 are available online beginning September 1, 2009. All prospective students MUST apply using the online application method with Graduate and International Admission Center site (GIAC). ALL application materials MUST reach GIAC by the CSD required deadline date for your area of interest.
*PLEASE NOTE - CSD offers FALL ADMISSION ONLY*
Step 1 Visit the Graduate and International Admission Center site (GIAC), and complete and submit the Online Application. Select the correct major code and department code for your area of interest.
Step 2 Pay your on-line application fee ($50 US and $75 International) at the Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC).
Step 3 Arrange with your Undergraduate Institution Records Office to send your OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS (Senior Colleges and Universities ONLY) by MAIL to the Graduate and International Admissions Center, P.O. Box 7608, Austin, TX, 78713-7608. Other methods by UPS, DHL or FedEx should be sent to Graduate and International Admissions Center, 2608 Whitis Ave., Austin, TX 78712-1534.
Step 4 Arrange for the Educational Testing Services (ETS) to submit your OFFICIAL SCORE for the Graduate Record Examinations General Test (GRE). The ETS code for UT Austin is 6882.
Step 5 International students should arrange for the Educational Testing Services (ETS) to submit your OFFICIAL SCORE for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Step 6 Electronically submit (cut & paste) your Statement of Purpose on the Graduate and International Admissions online application. (ONE PAGE overall-single space)
Step 7 Submit THREE letters of reference - Ask individuals providing references to submit letters electronically at the official link provided to them by the Office of Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC).
Mailing letters of reference may delay the receipt of your application. We understand that some institutions mail from Career Centers, so if that's the case then use this link for US Postal Service, FedEx or DHL addresses: http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/about/contact.html
The electronic reference form (which is emailed to your recommender by GIAC) is preferred, so please encourage your recommenders to use this method if possible. If letters of reference are mailed to the CSD Graduate Office, then those will be forwarded immediately to the Office of Graduate and International Admissions (GIAC). It is in your best interest to provide letters of reference through the electronic version to the Office of Graduate and International Center (GIAC) in order to meet the required CSD deadlines.
Letters are preferred from faculty in Communication Sciences and Disorders with whom you have taken courses and/or worked on research projects are the most helpful to our admission committees. Letters from employment supervisors are accepted but from those supervisors who work in CSD or a related field. We really do need to receive at least some input from academic faculty with whom you have worked. Failure to provide all three letters of reference may result in your application NOT going to review with our admissions committees.
Step 8 COMPLETE the Speech-Language Pathology Applicant Prerequisites Form OR Audiology Applicant Prerequisites Form and SAVE it to your desktop. Make sure all the appropriate fields are completed. Email the file as an attachment to csdgrad@uts.cc.utexas.edu by the required CSD DEADLINE DATE. BE SURE TO ENTER "PREREQUISITE FORM" in the email subject line.
Failure to complete and submit this form with CSD may prevent you from establishing a data record in our CSD Graduate Office and your application from going to review with our admissions committee.
